The Heliophysics Future Leaders (HFL) program paired IMAP senior scientists with a set of early career scientists for the IMAP mission development phase, offering mentoring and leadership training opportunities. Prospective fellows were identified by IMAP team members from IMAP mission partner institutions. Originally led by the Harvard Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, it was moved to the University of New Hampshire under the leadership of Lynn Kistler. Over the course of the mission development, early career HFL scientists became increasingly successful, attaining various high-level leadership positions in the mission (see below) and completing the HFL program as a huge success for the mission and NASA.
